Communitea brand - Veon Media Web Design client
The Big Communitea Centre is a Selby based mental health charity providing a safe and welcoming place for local people to talk, access practical support and feel less alone.

Its work includes mental health and wellbeing support, help with benefits and applications, food and essential supplies, advocacy, housing support, community activities and social trips. The charity also provides rooms for local groups and operates The Big Communitea Store, where sales of donated furniture and household items help fund the centre.

Communitea approached Veon Media because its existing website no longer reflected the scale of its work or the importance of the services it provides. Information had become difficult to navigate, donation opportunities needed greater visibility and the organisation required a more modern website that could support service users, donors, volunteers and community groups.

The goal was to create a warm, credible and easy to use website that reflected Communitea’s personality while helping visitors quickly find the right information or support. The new website combines a refined visual identity with clear navigation, purposeful messaging, and integrated e-commerce functionality, making it easier for customers to explore the brand, book services, and purchase products.

Challenge & Solution

Communitea supports several different audiences, each arriving at the website with a different need. Some visitors may need immediate mental health support, while others want to donate, volunteer, hire a room, access practical advice or visit the charity shop.

The challenge was to organise this extensive range of information without making the website feel overwhelming or institutional. The experience needed to remain friendly and reassuring while giving important services, contact details and support routes the prominence they deserved.

We rebuilt the website around clear visitor journeys, creating dedicated areas for support, services, donations, volunteering, room hire and The Big Communitea Store. The navigation was simplified so people could quickly understand what the charity offers and find the most appropriate next step.

Donations were brought to the forefront of the website, with clearer explanations of how contributions support the centre and the people who rely on it. Room hire was also developed into a more useful section, presenting the available spaces, facilities and enquiry process clearly.

The visual direction combines warmth, personality and community spirit with the credibility expected from an established mental health charity.

Our Process

We began by working closely with the Communitea team to understand the organisation, the people it supports and the reasons it exists.

These conversations gave us a clearer understanding of its mental health work, practical support services, community activities, funding requirements and the role of The Big Communitea Store. This ensured the website was shaped around the charity’s actual day to day work rather than a generic charity website structure.

We mapped the requirements of service users, donors, volunteers, community groups and partner organisations before developing the page structure and visual direction.

Regular design catch ups and detailed run throughs gave the Communitea team the opportunity to review progress, clarify information and help shape the final experience. This collaborative process allowed us to create a website that feels stylish and modern while remaining welcoming, approachable and appropriate for people seeking support.

Once the direction was agreed, we developed the website around clear content journeys, responsive layouts and straightforward website management.

Result Driven

The result is a modern charity website that communicates the scale of Communitea’s work while making its most important services easier to find and understand.

Visitors can now access clearer information about mental health support, practical assistance, community activities and the rooms available at the centre. The website also gives donations greater prominence and explains the different ways people can support the charity, including regular giving, furniture donations, fundraising and volunteering.

The Big Communitea Store has a stronger presence across the website, helping visitors understand how purchasing or donating furniture contributes to funding the centre’s frontline work.

Communitea now has a stronger digital platform for supporting local people, attracting donations, promoting its spaces and communicating the impact it makes throughout Selby.
